How to Check Halal Food in Vietnam

A practical framework for travellers, restaurants and tour operators.

Understand the Listing Labels

Halal Certified

The restaurant provides valid certification from an identified halal certification body. Certification scope and expiry should be recorded.

Muslim-Owned

The establishment is owned or operated by Muslims. This can be a strong trust indicator, but it is not identical to third-party certification.

Muslim-Friendly

The venue may offer suitable dishes or accommodate Muslim guests, but additional checks are required.

Questions to Ask

  • Is the meat halal-certified, and who is the supplier?
  • Are pork and non-halal meat handled in the same kitchen?
  • Is alcohol used in cooking, sauces or desserts?
  • Are fryers, grills, knives and utensils shared?
  • Can the restaurant prepare a separate meal for Muslim guests?
